“Will the rain make my windows dirty again?” is one of the most common questions asked after an exterior clean. London’s changeable weather makes the concern understandable, but rain itself is only part of the story. What the water picks up on its way across the glass is often more important.
A clean droplet on a clean surface does not contain the same mixture as rain running through dusty frames, pollen, traffic film and old detergent. When that contaminated water dries, the material it carried can remain visible.
Why rain gets blamed for dirty windows
Marks are easiest to notice after rain because droplets create a recognisable pattern. Yet the contamination may already have been on the pane. Dry dust can be difficult to see until water gathers it into spots or trails. Rain can also wash dirt from masonry, upper frames, vents and ledges onto the glass below.

Should you cancel because rain is forecast?
A forecast symbol alone does not describe conditions at the property. Brief light rain may have little effect on the planned work, while gusting wind can be the more important issue. If conditions are unsuitable, the service team should make a practical safety decision.
For your own internal glass, avoid rushing to clean in strong direct sunlight, which can cause solution to dry before it is removed evenly. Use clean tools and do not attempt unsafe exterior access from upper floors.
